What App Care covers, and the two ways to pay for it, are just below.
What App Care covers
An app is never finished. Phones change under it.
App Care is our website Hosting & Care, restated for an app. Same list, plus the one thing a website never needs.
- Backend hosting — the database, sign-in and push notifications kept online, SSL included
- Releases to the App Store and Google Play, and both listings kept in good standing
- Basic analytics
- Monthly minor updates — small copy edits, link fixes, image swaps, dependency patches
- Rebuilds when Apple or Google change their requirements, so the app keeps working as phones update
Larger work — new screens, new features — falls under change requests, with a written estimate before any work starts.
Two ways to pay for it
Same care either way. You choose who holds the backend.
Managed
RecommendedOne bill. We run your app’s backend on our accounts, and what it costs is inside your App Care fee.
- App Starter
- $99/mo
- App Growth
- $179/mo
- App Authority
- $299/mo
- Nothing to set up and nobody else to pay
- If your app outgrows the standard backend plan, we tell you first and pass the extra through at the provider’s cost, with no markup
- The data is yours: a full export whenever you ask
Best for: Most businesses. It is the simplest way to own an app.
Your own accounts
The backend account is opened in your business name and you pay the provider directly. We still run it.
- App Starter
- $69/mo
- App Growth
- $129/mo
- App Authority
- $269/mo
- Priced the same as our website Hosting & Care, because the work is the same
- The provider’s expected monthly cost goes in your written quote before you sign
- Every account is in your name from day one
Best for: Businesses with an IT person, or a rule that every account sits under the company.
The free months apply to our fee either way. On your own accounts you pay the provider from the first day. Not sure? Start managed — you can move to your own accounts later.
Is an app right for you?
Most businesses need the website first
An app earns its cost when the same people come back. Here is the honest split.
An app fits when
- Your customers come back — members, regulars, repeat orders
- There is something they do often: book, order, check in or show a loyalty card
- You want to reach them with a push notification instead of hoping they open an email
We will talk you out of it when
- A website inside an app shell. Apple rejects those, and a fast website does that job better
- A business that sees most customers once. Put the money into the website and local search first
Built, not just quoted. Our first client app, a members' app for a private Rochester club, is in private beta now: one codebase for iPhone and Android. See it on our work page →
Common questions
Mobile apps — answered
- How much does an iPhone and Android app cost in Rochester, NY?
- The build is $5,950, $11,500 or $19,500, depending on scope — all three are published on this page. App Care is free for the first 3, 6 or 12 months, then $99, $179 or $299 a month with the backend included, or $69, $129 or $269 a month if you hold the backend accounts yourself. Apple charges $99 a year and Google $25 once for the developer accounts, which are opened in your name.
- Do I get both iPhone and Android?
- Yes. Every tier is one app, built once with Expo and React Native, and submitted to both the App Store and Google Play. You are not paying for two separate builds. Apple and Google review every app before it goes live; we handle the submission and the changes their review asks for.
- How long does it take to build an app?
- Most apps take 3–6 weeks from kickoff to submission to the App Store and Google Play. The first week is scope and screen design; the build follows, you get the app on your own phone to try before it goes to the stores, and we submit as soon as it passes our own testing. Apple and Google each review it before it is listed, which usually takes a few days and is outside our control. Your written quote carries the dates for your app before any work starts.
- Can you just turn my website into an app?
- No. Apple rejects apps that are only a repackaged website (App Review Guideline 4.2), so that money would be wasted. Every app we build has at least one real in-app feature — a loyalty card, booking, ordering or check-in — that gives a customer a reason to keep it on their phone.
- What does App Care cover, and who pays for the backend?
- App Care is the app version of our website Hosting & Care: backend hosting, store releases, basic analytics, monthly minor updates, and rebuilds when Apple or Google change their requirements. You choose how the backend is paid for. Managed ($99, $179 or $299 a month) puts it on our accounts inside one bill, and is what we recommend for most businesses. On your own accounts ($69, $129 or $269 a month, the same as website hosting) you pay the provider directly, and we put its expected cost in your quote.
- Who owns the store accounts and the data?
- You do. The Apple Developer and Google Play accounts are opened in your business name and you pay Apple and Google directly. The app is published under your name, not ours, and it stays in your accounts if we ever stop working together. Your customer data is yours on either care option, and we hand over a full export whenever you ask.
- Do I need an app, or is a website enough?
- Most businesses need the website first. An app earns its cost when the same customers come back often — members, regulars, repeat orders — and you want to reach them with push notifications. If that is not your business, a fast website will do more for less, and we will tell you so.

We will tell you whether an app is worth it, which tier it lands in, and what it would cost to keep running. If a website would do more for you, we will say that instead.
