Frequently asked questions

The questions Rochester business owners actually ask

Pricing, timelines, hosting, ownership, and what makes ROC Web Tech different from agencies and freelancers in Monroe County.

Quick answer

A Rochester web design project costs $750 to $2,500 for the build, takes 1 to 6 weeks depending on tier, and ships with Lighthouse 95+ guaranteed plus 1–6 months of ongoing SEO bundled. You own the code and can move hosts any time. Pricing is published and fixed — no hourly billing.

How much does a website cost?
Fixed pricing, no hourly surprises. Starter is $750 build + $20/mo evergreen hosting (1 page, all the essentials). Growth is $1,250 build + $30/mo hosting (5–7 pages with local SEO baked in). Authority is $2,500 build + $40/mo hosting (10+ pages, full Monroe County SEO matrix, automations included). Hosting covers SSL, deploys, basic analytics, and monthly minor updates. Full breakdown on /cost.
How long does a website take to build?
Starter sites ship in about a week. Growth sites take two to three weeks. Authority builds with the full local-SEO matrix usually run three to four weeks. I work one project at a time, so your timeline is your timeline — no waiting in a queue behind other clients.
Do you use WordPress, Wix, or a page builder?
No. Every site is hand-coded in Next.js and React, deployed to Vercel. That is why ROC Web Tech sites consistently score 95+ on Lighthouse Performance while a typical WordPress site scores 40–60. No themes, no plugins, no monthly updates that break your layout. The tradeoff: I do not build sites you can edit yourself in a visual builder. If you need content edits later, I either wire up a small CMS at build time or handle changes for you on the hosting retainer.
Will my site rank in Rochester search results?
Local SEO is built in from day one — every Growth and Authority site ships with LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema, a Google Business Profile audit, and dedicated location pages for each Monroe County city you serve. Authority sites add the full 19-city service-area matrix. I publish my own ranking results on /reports so you can see what real Rochester sites look like in Google before you hire me.
Do I own the site and the code when we are done?
Yes, completely. The GitHub repo is transferred to you on request. The domain stays in your registrar (or I help you set one up in yours). If you ever want to move hosting, the entire codebase is portable to any Next.js host — Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare, or your own server.
What does hosting cost after launch?
Vercel hosting for a Starter or Growth site is typically $0 — they fit inside the free tier. Authority sites with heavy traffic might cross the $20/month line eventually, and you pay Vercel directly. The optional ROC Web Tech maintenance retainer is $99/month and covers all content edits, monthly Lighthouse audits, security patches, and one new feature or page per quarter. No retainer required — sites work fine on their own.
Do you also build the automations and lead-gen systems?
Yes. Every Growth and Authority site ships with at least one automation included — typically a contact-form-to-CRM flow plus an email confirmation. The /automations page lists the eight prebuilt workflows: review-request sequences, missed-call-text-back, lead routing, appointment reminders, Stripe-to-QuickBooks, and more. Custom automations are quoted separately, usually $200–$500 each.
Are you actually in Rochester, or is this an outsourced agency?
I am Connor Meador, born and raised in Monroe County, currently working out of Rochester. Every line of code on every ROC Web Tech site is written by me. There are no account managers, no offshore contractors, and no hand-offs. When you call or text 585-820-6559, you reach me directly.
What if I need changes after the site is live?
Small changes (copy edits, image swaps, new testimonials) are free within the first 30 days after launch. After that, edits are either handled on the $99/month maintenance retainer or quoted at a flat rate per change — typically $50–$150 depending on scope. I do not charge by the hour for anything.
Can you fix or rebuild my existing site instead of starting from scratch?
Sometimes — depends on what is wrong. I offer a free site audit at /audit that takes about 10 minutes and tells you whether the existing site is fixable or whether starting over is cheaper. About 60% of the audits I run end with "this is fine, here are three things to fix." The other 40% are sites built on old WordPress themes that would cost more to fix than to rebuild.
